The number of strands according to BS6360/IEC60228 shown in classes 1 &
2 is obligatory. Stranding shown in classes 5 & 6 gives the maximum strand
diameters and may have less strands provided the conductor does not exceed the
resistance figures shown. In either case the standard gives the maximum resistance
in ohms/km that is permissable for untinned conductors.
