  Electrex 2008

We will be showcasing a wide range of flexible and specialist cables including a variety of Low Smoke Halogen Free (LSHF) screened or unscreened multicores. Also on display will be cables for robotics, security, data, control, marine and high temperature applications. Composite cables and examples of armouring and oversheathing will also be available.

Visitors to the stand can also collect a free copy of the ‘Little Red Book’ – a 120 page pocket-sized guide to some of the harder to find cables. You can also take this opportunity to discuss any specific requirements you may have with our technical team who can advise on both stock and custom-manufactured cables for a range of applications.

Electrex is the UK's premier electrical event for contractors, wholesalers, panel builders and engineers. In addition to the exhibitors, the NICEIC and ECA will be hosting seminars on 17th Edition Revisions, Competent Persons Schemes and Domestic Periodic Testing and Reporting.

Surplus Stock

In February we are moving to a new 52,000 sq ft warehouse just up the road. Before we start to pack, we have identified a range of cables as either surplus or overstocked which are now available for purchase at special prices.

To request a copy either by post, fax or email, please contact our sales team or call our sales manager Andy Mallard on 01727 849818.

We would rather sell these cables than move them and are open to serious offers (no half scrap value offers please!).

The greatest savings will be on complete lines but we will cut or part ship if required.

We're moving!

We're pleased to announce that in early February 2008 we will be moving to a new 52,000 sq ft purpose built warehouse in St. Albans. The new building is about 3 miles from our current site, so still provides good access to the M1, M25 and A1(M).

In the short term our service will carry on uninterrupted, with the majority of orders still dispatched the same day we receive them. Longer term the new site will enable us to carry an even greater range of flexible & specialist cables for you to choose from. We will also have a better collection facility and the capacity to handle drums up to 8 tons.

We will be sending out change of address details just before the actual move. Don't forget to ask us about special prices on bulk quantities - we would much rather sell stock than move it!

Draka Firetuf Data and Coax receives London Underground approval

We are pleased to announce that the Draka Firetuf range of data and coax cables have been tested for and met the requirements of LUL standard 2-01001-002.

As the official distributor of the Draka Firetuf range of data and coax cables we are delighted with the decision as the LUL engineering standard is both stringent in its testing and internationally recognised as a benchmark for fire safety.

The LUL standard comprises tests for flammability to BS4066: Part 3, smoke emission to BS EN 50268 and toxic fume emissions.

In addition, both cables have been tested for and met fire resistance BS EN 50200:2000 and BS8434-2:2003 and achieved the required performance of class PH120 and 120 minutes survival time when tested to BS8434-2 for FR enhanced cables.

The Draka Firetuf Data and Coax has passed LUL testing for smoke, fume and toxicity

The results demonstrate the Draka Firetuf data and coax cables ability for continued functionality in the event of fire and ‘rubber stamps’ them as the ideal cables for digital signaling and CCTV in tunnel and train station applications.

The Firetuf data range has also proved to be the cables of choice in many public buildings for BMS applications and critical communication systems where mass emergency evacuation is required. The Low Smoke Halogen Free materials combined with the highest level of Fire Resistance provide unrivalled safety performance.

Whipping for cable thieves!

It was a headline that certainly caught our eye. On a recent holiday to Malaysia, Sharon, our financial controller bought a copy of the New Sabbah Times featuring the front page news of increasing cable and copper theft.

Having been broken into twice in the last few months, with the police powerless to take action, we would definitely support greater penalties – although whipping may be a little difficult to get past the politicians!
