The new Safe-T-Shield range from FS Cables has been designed to comply with 17th edition revision BS7671:2008, in particular clause 522.6 which relates to the protection against impact of cables that are concealed in a wall or partition at a depth of less than 50mm. Safe-T-Shield benefits from an aluminium screen and CPC (circuit protection conductor) which, if pierced or accidentally cut minimises the risk of personal injury. It also offers great savings on installation times, containment and weight when compared to SWA. The high level of screening ensures greatly reduced electromagnetic interference making it the right choice where EMC is a priority. It also benefits from being low smoke halogen free (LSHF) throughout, making it ideal for fixed wiring installations in hospitals, airports, computer rooms and other sensitive environments. Available in 2, 3 and 4 cores in 1.5mm², 2 and 4 cores in 2.5 mm² and 4 mm² and 2 cores in 6mm², Safe-T-Shield is supplied on either 100m or 500m reels, with a free cut to length service available on larger lengths. With the number of external data applications for Cat-5 cables increasing, so are the physical demands the cables are being asked to cope with. Long gone are the days when cables were simply contained in trunking around offices or under suspended floors. Cat-5 is now frequently being used to carry data from CCTV, BMS, environmental loggers and other external applications. Nowadays it’s not uncommon for a cable to be clipped to the outside of masts or buildings or pulled through a concrete duct. Even direct burial is not unheard of (although not necessarily wise). The FS Cables range of tough, outdoor Cat-5 cables is designed to withstand most things an external installation can throw at it. The duct grade or outdoor version has a hefty polyethylene waterproof jacket over the standard PVC inner sheath making it easy to strip and terminate. The overall diameter is increased to a massive 8.6mm making it a truly robust cable. The armoured version uses the substantial duct grade as a base with additional 0.9mm solid galvanised steel wires laid helically around the cable. This is followed by a heavy tough waterproof polyethylene jacket to provide possibly the toughest Cat-5 cable around. Both the armoured and duct grade versions are stocked in 100m lengths with the usual FS Cables ‘cut to length service’ offered to reduce your wastage. The addition of duct and armoured Cat-5 compliments the existing range of security cables we keep in stock for next day delivery. |
